It important for an organization to have strategies in place to efficiently utilize its resources and capabilities to achieve its objectives and goal, while providing quality goods and service to customers. In formulating strategic plans, an organization need to consider other competitors in the industry, and the role of other stakeholders such as creditors, stockholders, governmental entities, and the community where it is located. During the tenure of my doctorate, I visited the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, and was given an assignment to analyze the academy strategic plan. One of the important models used in strategic planning which I became familiar with was the SWOT analysis. In my role as a patient care team coordinator, I found that strategic planning is important for goal achievements, and the SWOT analysis has helped me to assess my unit strengths and weaknesses, determine possible opportunities for growth and improvement, and any likely threat that would compromise the provision of patient care.
