Personal Reflection

Who am I as a person? What is my purpose in pursuing a doctoral degree? How can I use the knowledge garnered during this tenure of study to improve my clinician and coordinating capabilities? I am a caring and compassionate person who believe in the execution of my role in an orderly and honest manner. I am a person who believes in maintaining my integrity at all times, encourage transparency at all times, and for issues that arise to be dealt with in a fair manner, without compromising. I make efforts to ensure that patients are satisfied with the care they are provide with on a daily basis is satisfactory. I also demonstrate fairness to staff and refrain from practicing any form of favoritism towards any staff member.

My faith in God with my continuing educational upgrade gave me confidence to step out from the comfort zone of working as a staff nurse to venture out into the unknown realms of management and leadership. I started working as a manager and leader in the private sector outpatient dialysis facilities starting in March 2017. I faced many challenges as I ventured out, having to learn the policies and practices peculiar to each facility. I also was faced with the consequences of unemployment, having spent several years working in a job where my pension was vested, and I was unionized. My new role place me in a position where I could be fired at will. However, since I accept the challenge to upgrade myself, I have maintained my trust in God and he has placed me in positions where I have achieved greater managerial positions.

My intention for being conferred with this doctoral degree in business administration is to increase my knowledge and managerial skills, and apply it to my leadership role. I want to be a source of inspiration to my family, friends and associates, to declare that with God all things are possible. My intention is to continue to research in areas pertinent to healthcare service, to contribute to the body of knowledge, by learning new ways to improve patient care and improve employee’s satisfaction in both inpatient and outpatient facilities. I will allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in new endeavors where my knowledge can be applied, and my role as a Patient Care Team Coordinator will be transitional to a greater level in leadership and management. My learning will not stop with this terminal degree; I will continue to improve my leaning skills in new competencies and certifications relating to my job. I will continue to volunteer my services in my local church and be more involved in roles which focuses on holistic growth of members. My aspiration is not for self-glory, but rather one of giving glory to God.

Philosophy

I am a clinician who works in a healthcare facility to coordinate the care of patients with kidney disease, patients receiving chemotherapy treatment, and patients who are undergoing pain management. I endeavor in my capacity as a patient care coordinator to ensure that safe, quality and compassionate care are provided to each patient. I work towards building a trusting relationship with my employees, treat each employee fairly, and help to create a working environment where they are motivated to provide safe and care of the highest quality. My intention is to streamline a working culture that encourage staff to provide quality care for patients, make considerations for their colleagues, and to practice self-care that their own health is not neglected.

I encourage my interdisciplinary care team to operate individualized care plans for each patient, and to address any issues or conflicts in a fair and transparent manner. Also, my care team maintains an open channel of communication between interdisciplinary staff and patients. I intend to use knowledge acquired from pursuing my doctoral degree to provide more effective leadership in my clinician role. This means that I will make recommendation and help to implement new strategies that will help to improve the quality of care provided and foster greater staff satisfaction and engagement. I will work to the best of my ability and maintain my integrity at all times. I also use my leadership skills to provide learning experiences in my volunteering services.

I will ensure that patients are treated with dignity, compassion and benevolence. I will improve my educational capacity by keeping current with evidence-based practices that will help me in my strategic planning for patient care improvement.
